Crators of the Moon, Idaho

Located in the Snake River Plain in central Idaho.  It's volcanic area represents one of the best preserved flood basalt areas in the continental United States.

We are walking out onto what was once fields of hot lava flows.

These underground tunnels were left by the lava tubes. After cooling in places, some of the service areas collapsed leaving tunnels throughout the area.

It was pitch black in parts of these tunnels.   If you didn't have a flashlight you could not see a thing.
